Pekanbaru Mayor Receives Working Visit from Japanese Consul General

PEKANBARU, Siberriau – The Japanese Consul General in Medan, Furugori Toru, visited Pekanbaru City, Riau Province, on Tuesday (January 20, 2026).

Furugori visited the Pekanbaru Mayor's Office at the Tenayan Raya Office Complex. The Japanese Consul General was welcomed by Pekanbaru Mayor Agung Nugroho in his office.

The two sides discussed several collaborations between the Pekanbaru City Government and Japan, one of which is in the field of education.

There are plans for future youth exchanges between Pekanbaru City and Japan in the field of education.

"We will also send teachers to Japan so they can learn from this and implement it in Pekanbaru City," said the Mayor.

The Mayor also stated that they will also assist in flood control efforts in Pekanbaru City.

"Hopefully, this assistance from Japan will help with flood management in Pekanbaru," he said.

Meanwhile, the Japanese Consul General in Medan, Furugori Toru, expressed his deep impression of Pekanbaru. He was impressed by its current cleanliness, especially since the Pekanbaru City Government is currently promoting urban greening.

"Pekanbaru City is very environmentally conscious and maintains a Green City. Pekanbaru is a city of culture, preserving Malay culture," he said.

On that occasion, Mayor Agung also treated the Consul General to a sago noodle dish from Riau. The Consul General said the food was delicious and acceptable to his palate. (Kominfo8/RD2)
