Siak, Siberriau – Siak Regent Afni Zulkifli personally accompanied the children who were victims of the collapse of the second floor of the Dutch Barracks cultural heritage building in Bentang Hulu Village on Saturday (January 31, 2026).

Afni was seen in the treatment room at Tengku Rafi'an Hospital in Siak until all medical procedures for the victims were completed.

At the hospital, the Siak Regent was seen holding the victims' hands, hugging, and encouraging those still traumatized by the incident.

Afni did not leave the treatment room until all the victims received medical treatment, including stitching the head wounds of several children.

In addition to accompanying the victims, Afni also provided support to the families who arrived later at the hospital.

He also ensured that all victims received the best possible care from medical personnel and that the families' needs were met during their treatment.

Afni expressed concern over the condition of the cultural heritage building, which lacked proper maintenance due to budget constraints.

According to him, efforts to preserve and maintain historic buildings such as the Dutch Tangsi often face serious funding challenges, despite ongoing attention and assistance from the Siak Sultanate.

The Siak Regency Government has confirmed that it will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the condition of cultural heritage buildings in the area to prevent similar incidents from recurring in the future.

The Dutch Tangsi is a cultural heritage building dating back more than two centuries and is a key historical landmark in Siak Regency.

This is not the first time a second-floor collapse has occurred; the heritage building has previously claimed two lives due to falling debris.

As previously reported, the Dutch Tangsi cultural heritage building in Mempura District, Siak Regency, collapsed on Saturday (January 31, 2026) at around 9:00 a.m. Western Indonesian Time. The incident killed 16 people, most of whom were children on a study tour.

The victims were a group of students from Baitul Ridho Islamic Elementary School, Lubuk Dalam, who were on the second floor of the Dutch Tangsi building at the time of the incident.

The second floor collapsed suddenly during a briefing session, causing participants to fall and be hit by falling building materials. The victims were rushed to the nearest hospital and community health center. There were no fatalities in the incident. (Dp07/MC Siak Regency)
